Cross-Platform Mobile Telecom Network Health at-a-Glance
I helped to design a measurable shift in mobile enterprise network management: a cross-platform mobile app that transformed complex monitoring and ticketing into a single, cohesive tool. Leveraging Axure RP and an Ionic Framework dev stack, we moved beyond legacy dashboards to deliver a native-feeling user experience. This solution empowered enterprise users with real-time network health at a glance, allowing them to resolve critical incidents in as little as three taps.

Project Description
As the lead product design consultant, I guided the project across multiple development cycles, functioning effectively as a "UX team of 1" and working with seven cross-functional teams, including Engineering and QA, in a SAFe Agile environment. My primary focus was defining the user flow through scenario and story mapping, which was essential for integrating circuits, tickets, and bandwidth management into a unified experience. This design required translating a senior leader's desire for a unique, "darker, high-tech aesthetic" into functional prototypes, even though the final release ultimately adhered more closely to the corporate brand. I ensured the design provided users with actionable insights into their dynamic network functionality from any location, and the final application was successfully developed and launched, proving the value of a full-fidelity prototype in enterprise-level development.
Key Features
-
Cross-Platform Mobile Experience: The app was built as a single, cohesive, OS-independent experience using Ionic to allow users to monitor and manage network health from any mobile platform.
-
"Health-at-a-Glance" Monitoring: Users can instantly monitor their network health with minimal interactions/clicks, aligning with the project's mission statement for quick decision-making.
-
Dynamic Network Functionality: It leveraged existing dynamic network architecture, allowing users to view and control more of their network than ever before.
-
Service Ticket Integration: The app merged the ability to view network health with features from another app that allowed users to view and manage service tickets.
-
Actionable Insights: The design aimed to give users actionable insights into their networks from anywhere, at any time, going beyond basic account management.
-
Unified Experience (Health/Tickets/Bandwidth): The final design integrated network health monitoring, circuits, tickets, and bandwidth management into a single, cohesive user journey.
Technologies Used
-
Design & Prototyping: Axure RP Pro 8, Sketch / InVision, Adobe CC
-
Tech Stack: Ionic Framework
-
Open Source Tools: Pencil Project, GIMP, Inkscape, LibreOffice
-
Development & Project Management: SharePoint, SAFe Agile/Scrum
Project Highlights
-
Successful Release: The Telecom Mobile app was successfully developed, released to the Apple and Android app stores.
-
Lead Role & Small Team: I served as the Lead Product Design Consultant, functioning as a "UX team of 1" for over 3 years.
-
Leveraged Existing Research: Due to a lack of budget/time for new research, the team effectively created user personas and task maps by leveraging existing user data and SME interviews.
-
Prototypes as Communication Tools: Prototypes in Axure were invaluable, bridging the gap between design and development by allowing engineers to visualize interactions and product managers to validate workflows.
-
Agile "Release Early and Often": User testing was supplemented by the Agile approach of releasing early and often, which provided learning through continuous user feedback after release.
